This year’s event attracted over 13,000 participants from 55 countries and territories. It featured many of Vietnam’s top runners, including Hoang Nguyen Thanh, Nguyen Thi Oanh, Nguyen Van Lai, and Nguyen Trung Cuong, along with defending champion Kiptoo Edwin from Kenya.
The competition among seasoned athletes and emerging talents made for thrilling moments throughout the 42.195 km race course, culminating in a surprise victory by a newcomer from Ethiopia.
Kure Ebisa Takele claimed the championship title with a time of 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 34 seconds, followed by Lilan Kennedy of Kenya at 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 27 seconds. Vietnamese runners Hoang Nguyen Thanh and Huynh Anh Khoi finished third and fourth with times of 2 hours, 30 minutes, 57 seconds, and 2 hours, 33 minutes, 34 seconds, respectively. Kiptoo placed fifth at 2 hours, 37 minutes, and 34 seconds.

In the women’s marathon race, Vietnamese athletes dominated, claiming all five top spots.
Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa, the national record holder from the 2024 Hong Kong Marathon with a time of 2 hours, 44 minutes, 52 seconds, and a four-time consecutive champion of the National Marathon Championship (2022–2025), once again proved her class by finishing first with a time of 2 hours, 54 minutes, 19 seconds.
Bui Thi Thu Ha and Doan Thi Oanh followed in second and third place with times of 2 hours, 57 minutes, 3 seconds, and 2 hours, 57 minutes, 55 seconds. Nguyen Thi Tra Giang and Thai Thi Hong secured the fourth and fifth spots.
In the Vietnam Open Marathon, familiar names continued to impress. In the men’s field, Pham Tien San took first place with a time of 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 25 seconds, followed by Ha Quang Thang (2:41:27) and Nguyen Mai Trung (2:43:23). In the women’s field, Hoang Huong Thuy finished first with a time of 3:10:21, ahead of Pham Thi My Duyen (3:12:53) and Nguyen Thi My Hien (3:18:40).
These record-breaking performances not only highlighted the athletes’ determination and endurance but also affirmed the growing quality of the event and the strength of Vietnam’s marathon community.
After winning the Vietnam Open Marathon, San expressed his honor at standing on the podium once again after years of competition. He encouraged young runners to continue their passion for the sport, believing that consistent training would lead them to achieve milestones they never thought possible. “For me, beyond the victory, the greatest meaning lies in seeing Vietnam’s running community grow and reach new heights through events like the Techcombank Hanoi International Marathon,” he said.

This year, the organizers recognized 101 outstanding runners across overall and age-group categories, with 34 honored live on stage. The ceremony, celebrating their achievements, became one of the most emotional highlights of the event, inspiring tens of thousands of participants and viewers watching both on-site and via live broadcast and digital platforms.
A special highlight of this year’s race was the debut of the largest “Sub-3 Train” (No-Number Train) in Vietnam’s marathon history. This formation of more than 80 runners who completed a full marathon in under three hours symbolized not only speed but also resilience, determination, and the pursuit of excellence. It represents the “Be Greater Every Day” spirit, inspiring the nationwide running community.

According to the organizers, the Techcombank Hanoi International Marathon concluded successfully, thanks to the collective efforts and strong partnerships of government agencies, local authorities, businesses, sponsors, media partners, and the running community both in Vietnam and abroad.
“This collaboration not only helped elevate the event into a professional sporting platform that embodies the cultural identity and spirit of the capital city but also reaffirmed the vital role of sports in promoting a healthy lifestyle, inspiring community well-being, and advancing sustainable development through every ‘Run for a Greater Vietnam,'” said a representative.
