According to the Wall Street Journal, news of the billionaire’s marriage surfaced through a statement from Champions Circle, a booster group for the University of Michigan football team. The statement, published on the group’s website, announced that Michigan had secured Bryce Underwood, a highly-rated high school quarterback from Louisiana State University. It highlighted Ellison and Zhu, whom the group identified as his wife, as key figures in the school’s successful pursuit of Underwood.
“I want to personally thank Larry and his wife Jolin who were instrumental in making this happen by providing Champions Circle with invaluable guidance and financial resources,” read the statement written by Champions Circle chairman Nate Forbes.
The Wall Street Journal later discovered that Zhu is also known as Keren, based on information from two sources familiar with the couple and several public records. She is an alumna of the University of Michigan, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in International Studies in 2012, which explains the support Ellison has given to the school.
According to The Economic Times, her name has appeared on property owned by Octopus Holdings, a company owned by Ellison. She has also emerged as a key figure in Ellison’s investments in college football.
Aside from these details, Zhu has no significant online presence.
Ellison’s first marriage was to Adda Quinn, lasting from 1967 to 1974. He then married Nancy Wheeler Jenkins in 1977, divorcing just a year later.
In 1983, he married Barbara Boothe, a former receptionist at Relational Software, Inc., a company he founded, before divorcing in 1986.
In 2003, Ellison married romance novelist Melanie Craft, divorcing in 2010.
Ellison co-founded Oracle Corporation in 1977. He served as Oracle’s CEO from 1977 to 2014 and now holds the roles of chief technology officer and executive chairman.
As of June 2024, Forbes ranks Oracle as the second-largest company by market capitalization in the software and programming sector.
Ellison’s net worth is estimated at US$221.6 billion by Forbes as of Dec. 11.
