Thai Airways and AirAsia have introduced new restrictions on power banks during flights following recent incidents of cabin fires.
Thai Airways will completely ban the use of power banks on its flights starting March 15, according to the Straits Times.
Passengers on Thai Airways flights can still carry power banks in their hand luggage, provided these devices meet capacity limits set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand.
AirAsia will also prohibit passengers from charging devices with power banks during flights. Its passengers must keep power banks in their hand luggage, adhering to safety standards established by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
These changes follow similar moves by several international airlines responding to an increase in fire incidents linked to power banks.
Recently, South Korea’s Air Busan banned storing power banks in overhead bins after a device was believed to have caused a fire on a flight preparing for departure to Hong Kong, the Bangkok Post reported.
