Sun PhuQuoc Airways, the airline belonging to resort and theme park operator Sun Group, is set to make its inaugural flight on Nov. 1.
Ticket sales would begin on its website in mid-October, the airline announced Tuesday without revealing further details about the flight.
The company has received its air transport business license but is awaiting an Air Operator Certificate.
A spokesperson said Sun PhuQuoc Airways plans to operate eight daily flights between Hanoi and HCMC in the initial phase, five daily flights between Hanoi and Phu Quoc Island, eight between HCMC and Phu Quoc Island, and three between Hanoi and Da Nang.
Next year it plans to expand internationally with flights from Phu Quoc to South Korea, China, Singapore, and other destinations.
It has taken delivery of three Airbus A321 aircraft, and expects to add four more by year-end and eight in 2026 to support its international expansion.
The carrier has a charter capital of VND2.5 trillion, aiming for a fleet of 31 aircraft by 2030.
The airline completes Sun Group’s ecosystem, which already covers resort tourism, entertainment and real estate besides infrastructure.
The airline’s launch coincides with a resurgence in Vietnam’s aviation market.
In the first half of this year Vietnamese airports handled 41.3 million passengers, a 10% year-on-year increase.
International arrivals alone were 12.2 million in the first seven months, up nearly 23%.
Domestic travelers currently have limited options, with Vietnam Airlines dominating the full-service segment after Bamboo Airways’ decline.
In the low-cost segment, Vietjet holds most of the market while Vietravel Airlines is gradually expanding.
At an event earlier this month Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ CEO Nguyen Manh Quan pledged to bring a “new quality choice” to the Vietnamese aviation market before expanding internationally.
