Italian scooter maker Lambretta plans to return to Vietnam in the second quarter of 2025 with its X and G Series models.
A source told VnExpress that Lambretta has found an official distributor in Vietnam and shipped its first batch of vehicles, which are in the process of registration before they can go on sale.
“The X Series and G Series will be launched first to take on premium scooters such as the Honda SH and Vespa GTS,” the source said.
It is not known from where the vehicles were shipped, but Thailand seems the most likely place of origin.
In Thailand, the X Series comes in two variants, X200 and X300.
The latter is set to be sold in Vietnam, and it comes with a 275cc engine producing 25.1 horsepower and 24.5 Nm of torque.
The G Series also has two variants, Series I and Series II, both equipped with a 330cc engine that has an output of 25.4 hp and 25.5 Nm of torque.
The Honda SH 350i sells for around VND152 million (US$5,950) while the Vespa GTS is priced at VND94-179 million.
Lambretta, founded in 1947, was previously sold in Vietnam in 2011, with its scooters imported whole from Italy. It later assembled its vehicles locally.
With prices of VND85-126 million at the time, it targeted the premium segment, which had been largely dominated by another Italian firm, Vespa.
Though its popularity has since waned, those born in the 1970s and earlier possibly remember Lambretta as one of the most iconic scooter brands of their time.
