Vietnamese citizens aged 21 and above with a monthly income of at least VND10 million (US$379) can now legally gamble at three casinos across the country.
A new government decree, effective Wednesday, officially grants permanent approval for locals to play at Casino Phu Quoc.
Operated by a Vingroup subsidiary, the casino features 1,470 slot machines and 147 gaming tables, and had already been admitting Vietnamese under a pilot program launched in 2016.

The decree also initiated a five-year trial for locals to play at Ho Tram Casino in HCMC and Van Don Casino in the China-bordering province of Quang Ninh.
Vietnam has nine casinos, but the other six are still only open to foreigners, with the government maintaining a tight control over gambling.
