Major supermarket operators in Singapore are adding discounts to the government’s voucher scheme to help Singaporeans cope with higher living costs.
Giant, with over 40 outlets across the country, said that shoppers who spend at least SGD60 (US$47) in Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers from Jan. 3 to 9 will receive a SGD6 return voucher. The return voucher can be used between Jan, 4 and 18, with no minimum spending required, according to The Straits Times.

The supermarket’s offering came after the government announced that from Jan. 2, every Singaporean household can claim SGD300 in CDC vouchers, split evenly for use at participating supermarkets, as well as hawker stalls and heartland merchants.
Similarly, customers who spend SGD60 in a single transaction using CDC vouchers at any FairPrice outlet will receive a SGD6 return voucher from Jan. 2 to 11. FairPrice is the largest retailer in Singapore with 230 outlets, according to AsiaOne.
There is no minimum spend to use the return vouchers, and multiple vouchers may be used in one transaction. These vouchers will be valid from the day after issuance until Feb. 27, 2026.
Vipul Chawla, CEO of FairPrice Group, said: “As families start the new year, we hope these return vouchers will provide some support and help ease everyday expenses.”
“This is just the start of our year-long efforts as we continue to grow alongside Singapore and find meaningful ways, big and small, to make every day a little better for the communities we serve.”
FairPrice Group has also rolled out other measures to help consumers stretch their budgets, including extending daily discount schemes for seniors and other members until the end of the year.
Sheng Siong said it is not offering discounts tied specifically to the CDC vouchers scheme, but will continue its existing 4% senior citizen discount until year-end. The discount applies to shoppers aged 60 and above on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, capped at SGD200 per receipt per day.
