Shangri-La Asia, one of the largest hotel chains in Asia, has appointed Kuok Hui Kwong, the daughter of Malaysia’s richest man Robert Kuok, as its new chief executive officer, effective Aug. 1.
Kuok, 47, has served as the company’s executive director since June 2016 and its chairperson since January 2017, Business Times reported.
Under her current employment contract, she is entitled to a monthly base salary of US$73,377, along with a discretionary bonus and pension benefits, according to The Straits Times.
A Harvard University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies, Kuok previously served as managing director and CEO of SCMP Group, the publisher of the South China Morning Post.
She ranked 40th on Fortune’s 2024 list of the most powerful women in Asia.
According to Shangri-La Asia’s 2024 annual report, the group owns 81 of the more than 100 hotels it operates under four main brands: Shangri-La, Kerry, Hotel Jen, and Traders.
Its hotel properties have a combined net asset value of US$10.83 billion.
