Property tycoon Truong My Lan is promising to repay all the money the State Bank of Vietnam has loaned Saigon Commercial Bank.
At her appeal against her death sentence for embezzlement Friday, she told the People’s High Court of HCMC that she would use all of her 1,800 assets to repay the loans, and sought legal support from the government to complete projects that have stalled.
“I will pay back the State Bank of Vietnam at all costs.”
She also requested the court to re-evaluate 681 assets, which she said were undervalued by an appraisal company.
She is appealing the death penalty handed to her in April for embezzling VND677 trillion (US$27 billion) from SCB over the course of 10 years.
She was also awarded a life sentence last month for “fraudulent appropriation of assets” through bond issuances and illegal cross-border money transfers among others.
