The promotions apply to routes between Johor Bahru Central and Tumpat in Kelantan starting Wednesday, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, as reported by state-owned news agency Bernama.
This does not include the KTM Shuttle Tebrau that runs between Singapore and Malaysia.
He added that the move aligns with the government’s efforts to position rail as a primary mode of transport while reducing commuting expenses.
The discount will be available from Monday to Thursday, excluding school holidays and public holidays, The Star reported.

Passengers must purchase tickets using a promotional code to be announced by national rail operator Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad between April 15 and 30, for travel from April 15 to Oct. 14,” Loke said.
However, the discount will not apply to business class and first class passengers.
The initiative also covers the Express Rail Link service, which will introduce two new monthly passes offering discounts of up to 90%. These will be available to civil servants working or living in Putrajaya, as well as Malaysians employed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminals 1 and 2.
The Malaysian government has warned its citizens of price disruptions should the Middle East conflict persists.
“The government’s key challenge, particularly in terms of communications strategy, is to ready the public to accept the reality that the pain is coming,” Home Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Monday.
He said the government’s priority remains safeguarding Malaysians’ welfare and cushioning them from the full impact of external shocks, while preserving economic stability.
At the same time, he warned of risks such as potential disruptions to energy supplies and rising costs.
Malaysia is one of the largest oil and gas producers in the Asia-Pacific region and was the world’s fifth largest exporter of liquefied natural gas in 2023.
