A taxi passenger in Bangkok has called the police after being removed from a ride as the driver demanded a flat BHT200 (US$6.08) fare instead of using the meter.
The passenger, who posted a video of the incident on TikTok under the username @auppatam1 on May 29, said the driver even stopped the car and told him to get out when he refused to pay, as reported by Bangkok Post. He added that the driver began the ride with the meter on as usual.
When the passenger requested to see the driver’s license or public transport ID, the latter said no such documents were available. The driver also admitted that the vehicle’s registration had expired.
After exiting the taxi, the passenger photographed the license plate for evidence, which led to an aggressive confrontation from the driver. The passenger ultimately contacted the police.
The viral video sparked widespread criticism online, with many people expressing frustration over inadequate enforcement and citing such incidents as a primary reason for avoiding taxis in Bangkok.
