A durian stall in Singapore is giving out 200 packs, or roughly 1,000 kilograms, of free durians to seniors, with the first day’s supply gone within two hours.
The promotion, run by Nabayla Durian in the Ang Mo Kio area, is offering packs of XO and D24 durians to seniors aged 55 and above from 5 p.m. each day from Monday to Friday this week, AsiaOne reported, citing local Chinese-language media.
The owner had initially worried the event might not draw attention but news spread quickly and a queue of seniors formed on Monday when the giveaway began.
She told 8world that the free fruits were meant as a way to give back to the community, adding that her business has also being giving durians weekly to low-income families at void decks of public HDB buildings.

The strong turnout echoes a similar giveaway held by another stall last month, which drew more than 500 people, some of whom queued for over three hours. That event saw 1,000 durians, or about 1,200 kilograms, snapped up within a few hours, according to Mothership.
Despite its strong odor, durian is loved by many Singaporeans, with Musang King or Mao Shan Wang being a top choice, per Channel News Asia.
Recently, fans of the fruit have benefited from a bumper harvest at farms across Malaysia, where the city-state sources most of its durians.
The glut has caused prices there to plummet, with sought-after varieties such as Musang King, Black Thorn and D24 selling for as little as RM10 (US$2.4) per kilogram, the New Straits Times reported earlier this month.
