Sunway Construction Group, part of billionaire Jeffrey Cheah’s Sunway conglomerate, has secured additional work worth RM664.4 million (US$160.7 million) for two data centre-related substation projects in Malaysia’s Johor state.
Sunway Construction Group (SunCon) said in a filing on Wednesday that a wholly owned subsidiary had accepted change orders from a U.S.-based multinational technology company for project service requests originally awarded on April 21.
“The aggregate contract value of the works has increased to RM865.6mil, following the acceptance of change orders amounting to RM664.4mil,” the firm said, as quoted by The Star.

Work on the projects began in April, with one data center expected to be completed in the last quarter of next year and the other in the second quarter of 2028.
SunCon said the contracts are expected to make a positive contribution to the group’s earnings from 2026 onward, according to The Edge Malaysia.
It has won RM4.2 billion in contracts so far this year, including the newly awarded change orders, bringing its outstanding order book to RM8.8 billion, per the New Straits Times.

SunCon is the construction arm of Sunway Group, is a diversified conglomerate with interests spanning real estate, healthcare, education and infrastructure. The conglomerate is controlled by Cheah, whose fortune is estimated at US$5.1 billion, placing him among Malaysia’s richest individuals, according to Forbes.
