Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked China’s Pacific Construction Group to look into building an underground metro linking Tan Son Nhat Airport and Long Thanh Airport.
The PM on Friday met with Yan Jiehe, founder of the group – a major Chinese private enterprise in infrastructure investment, construction, operation and management, which has ranked among the world’s top 500 largest corporations for 10 consecutive years.

PM Chinh also called on the group to expand its investment in Vietnam, including cooperation with domestic enterprises to develop landmark projects associated with technology transfer.
This would not only contribute to Vietnam’s socio-economic development but also help strengthen bilateral relations and bring benefits to both sides, he added.
Jiehe said Pacific Construction Group has won bids and is currently working on three major projects in Hanoi: the construction of Tu Lien Bridge, Ngoc Hoi Bridge and the Van Cao–Hoa Lac metro line.
The company wants to join more major infrastructure projects and to maintain a long-term presence in Vietnam in line with the Prime Minister’s direction, he added.
The group will discuss with Vietnam Railways Corporation on possible railway and metro projects in Hanoi and HCMC.
In October last year, HCMC proposed to the government for a rail connection between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh via Metro Line No. 2, which would then link to the Thu Thiem–Long Thanh line.
Under the proposed plan, passengers from Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City would transfer to Ba Queo Station on Metro Line No. 2. From there, they would switch to the Thu Thiem–Long Thanh railway to reach Long Thanh Airport in Dong Nai province.
HCMC has also planned some other rail connections between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh, which is set to be commercially operated in the middle of this year under an annual capacity of 25 million passengers.
